18. in October, Great Tide will release their first album Daywatcher. This is so beyond good and makes me so happy. Great Tide delivers americana so harmoniously that it is hard to believe that they are originally Norwegian. They already have an EP and a couple of singles in their luggage that are also worth checking out. Jonas Anker Paulsen, Odin Landbakk, Andreas Utne Friestad and Torbjorn Borge are the guys dressed in carpentry pants.
The band appears authentic not only visually. Both the songs, arrangement and soundscape are nostalgically reminiscent of the 70s. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the guys met at the music conservatory. A Good Way to Spend Time is my favourite album. A so-called timeless watch-riff that sounds good anywhere, anytime. The sound is open and delicate. The guitar sun gives goosebumps and the vocals sail, sometimes in two voices, over and reminds me of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Free.
Out of Green Bay is also a good example of how unorthodox this sounds. Few Norwegian bands have managed to create such a good and comprehensive sound as these guys dressed in carpentry pants. The multi-voiced song once again reminds of all the big guys from the magical 70s, Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. There is just something special about the interplay of these references, which Great Tide recreates in its own unique way. Norwegian Big Bang was on to something, but changed too many members along the way.
