The Brazilian violist Gabriel Marin and pianist Ana Flávia Frazão present in their debut album, works that explore the rich and diverse literature of the repertoire for their instruments. The duo exalts, through virtuosic interpretations, the drama, lyricism, and rhythmic subtleties that characterize this elegant chamber formation.
Spanning a range from Russian and European Romanticism to contemporary Brazilian pieces, the selection highlights the unpublished “Cornell Impressions” by Henrique de Curitiba, composed of four small pieces that captivate with their lightness and richness of nuances and a unique interpretation of the “Viola Sonata in D Minor” by Mikhail Glinka, often considered the founder of Russian musical nationalism, a piece that features brilliant writing for both instruments.
Marin and Frazão are renowned instrumentalists with individual careers filled with great achievements, but together, they find a heightened sense of harmony and musical balance, transforming their performances into virtuosic recordings that renew and enrich the repertoire written for viola and piano.
